8.3 GW of Solar PV managed by GreenPowerMonitor including 10 projects larger than 100 MW

GreenPowerMonitor, part of DNV GL, expected to reach milestone of 9GW PV under its management by end of 2017.  DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and certification body, announced a key milestone today with GreenPowerMonitor (GPM) providing monitoring, control and asset management solutions for 10 uber-large PV energy power plants in production globally. The total solar PV capacity monitored by GPM is currently 8.3 GW and is expected to reach 9 GW by the end of the year. According to DNV GL’s Energy Transition Outlook 2017, Solar PV is expected to become a major contributor to the energy supply of the future and play a significant

DNV GL starts Joint Industry Project to improve assessment of site condition data for offshore wind farms

A new recommended practice will provide industry guidance on optimal collection and assessment of site conditions which will lead to time, cost and risk reduction in offshore wind farm designing. DNV GL invites industry partners to start a Joint Industry Project (JIP) for improving the collection and assessment of site conditions data for offshore wind farms. Aiming to increase the efficiency of collecting site conditions, the new JIP will work with stakeholders from across the wind industry. The knowledge generated from the JIP is planned to be ultimately incorporated in a DNV GL recommended practice. The design of an offshore wind farm is dependent on the quality of the calculated

DNV GL advises on GBP 210 million investment for three new UK wind farms

DNV GL advises respected lenders, including Santander, on their GBP 210 million investment in a new 151 MW onshore wind portfolio. DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and certification body, has advised renowned lenders, including Santander, on their GBP 210 million project finance investment for the construction of three new onshore wind farms by Banks Renewables, the first of which is expected to start generating electricity by early 2018. The 151 MW three wind project portfolio, Kype Muir and Middle Muir in Scotland, and Moor House in England, were among 15 projects that had successfully secured Contract for Difference (CfD) during the first round of the

DNV GL launches “Twisties” Joint Industry Project to standardise and improve offshore wind logistics

“Twisties” adopts industry standard 20-foot cargo container twist-lock centres, ensuring that cargo can be transported on existing vessels arranged for containers and avoids the need to develop expensive new specialist transportation and installation vessels for next generation (10 MW+) offshore turbines. DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and certification body, has launched a revolutionary new joint industry project (JIP) to develop a Recommended Practice intended to de-risk the adoption of “Twisties” and demonstrate the unitisation of wind project cargo. The innovative concept is called “Twisties” – a modular project-cargo transport frame system that is sea-fastened using container twist locks – and which gives the frames their

DNV GL certifies new prototype of Siemens’ 8 MW offshore wind turbine

DNV GL supports Siemens to prepare optimised turbine for the offshore market with a rated power increase of 14% compared to the previously certified turbine variant. DNV GL has assessed the market’s new offshore turbine in development and awarded Siemens Wind Power with the Prototype Certificate for its 8 megawatt (MW) offshore wind turbine SWT-8.0-154. The prototype certification confirms all relevant safety features on the turbine according to the Danish Executive Order BEK 73:2013 and IEC 61400-22, allowing installation of the prototype to demonstrate its performance. By erecting the turbine at the test centre for wind turbines in Østerild, Denmark, Siemens is able to perform the measurement campaign for the
