DONG Energy is rapidly advancing in the UK

Expansion within offshore wind power makes DONG Energy one of the largest foreign investors in the UK energy sector. And now the company is also rapidly advancing in the power market. DONG Energy has secured its largest contract so far in the B2B market in the UK. The customer, Welsh Power, left their previous supplier in favour of DONG Energy, which is a relatively new player in the UK power market. With delivery to more than 4,000 points of consumption, Welsh Power is the largest multi-site customer in DONG Energy’s history, and the contract means a doubling of the number of UK sites receiving power from DONG Energy. Element Power sells UK battery storage project to Enel

Element Power, a leading European developer and operator of energy projects, has completed the sale of its 25MW construction-ready battery storage project in Newcastle, UK to the Italian electricity utility Enel S.p.A. (“Enel”). Enel purchased the Tynemouth stand-alone battery energy storage system (“BESS”) by acquiring the shares of Element Power’s wholly owned subsidiary Tynemouth Energy Storage Limited (“TESL”). Element Power had, through TESL, successfully participated in National Grid’s competitive tender for Enhanced Frequency Response (“EFR”), being selected alongside 7 other providers from 243 competing bids comprising 1.7GW of installed capacity. The EFR contract secured by Element Power is one of the best remunerated among those selected in the tender. Element

Prevailing to launch free report on improving industry best practice for UK offshore energy yield prediction at Offshore Wind Energy 2017

It is expected that by 2030 there will be 100 GW of offshore wind capacity installed globally, equivalent to $400 billion of investment.  Recognising the attractiveness of long term government-backed energy supply contracts, reverse auctions are being used as a means of generating competition to ensure affordability for the consumer.  In recent years winning bids at Borssele and Kriegers Flak and zero subsidy bids in Germany have established new low pricing thresholds and re-defined global offshore cost expectations.  It is against this backdrop of reducing offshore profit margins that industry analyst, Prevailing, has undertaken a major study to determine the accuracy of current industry best practice offshore energy yield prediction

First power at Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm

Electricity has been generated for the first time at DONG Energy’s Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm, located off the North Norfolk coast. With the initial turbines installed, power from the first turbine is now being exported to the national grid. Race Bank consists of 91 Siemens 6 megawatt (MW) turbines, including the first ever wind turbine blades manufactured at the Siemens blade factory in Hull which are expected to be installed later in the year. Approximately two thirds (around 180) of the blades at Race Bank will come from the Siemens facility in Hull. First blades from Hull Klaus Skoust Møller, Race Bank Programme Director at DONG Energy, said: “I’m

DNV GL launches “Twisties” Joint Industry Project to standardise and improve offshore wind logistics

“Twisties” adopts industry standard 20-foot cargo container twist-lock centres, ensuring that cargo can be transported on existing vessels arranged for containers and avoids the need to develop expensive new specialist transportation and installation vessels for next generation (10 MW+) offshore turbines. DNV GL, the world’s largest resource of independent energy experts and certification body, has launched a revolutionary new joint industry project (JIP) to develop a Recommended Practice intended to de-risk the adoption of “Twisties” and demonstrate the unitisation of wind project cargo. The innovative concept is called “Twisties” – a modular project-cargo transport frame system that is sea-fastened using container twist locks – and which gives the frames their
